ACT ONE/PRIMER ACTO (Disco I)

1. Overture/Overtura (Instrumental)

Una antigua leyenda celta narra que Merlín nació cuando el Demonio, quien quería un representante en la tierra, sedujo a una princesa. Aunque Merlín nace con poderes místicos resultados de esta unión, la magia maligna es eliminada cuando su madre lo bautiza inmediatamente al nacer, dejando solamente los poderes del bien en su hijo.

An Old Celtic legend tells that Merlin is born when the Devil, wanting a representative on Earth, seduces a princes. Although Merlin is born with mystical powers as a result of this union, the evil magic is eliminated when his mother has him baptised as sonn as he is born thus leaving only the powers of good inside her son.

2. As It Was In The Beginning/Como Era En El Principio

La historia salta al futuro y encontramos al Demonio, padre de Merlín, disfrazado como un inofensivo juglar vagando en los alrededores del bosque encantado. Primero encuentra a Gwendolyn, la esposa que Merlín abandonó en favor de una vida solitaria; después a Ganeida, la atormentada hermana tan preocupada por la aparente locura de su hermano. Ambas mujeres cantan su tristeza y soledad. El Demonio, observando tal debilidad toma ventaja rápidamente, entablando amistad con las dos.

The story jumps into the future and finds the Devil, Merlin’s father, disguised as a harmless minstrel wandering around the enchanted forest. He first meets Gwendolyn, the wife who Merlin deserted in favour of a solitary life, and then Ganeida, the troubled sister so worried about her brother and his apparent madness. Both women sing of their distress and loneliness and the Devil seeing this weakness is quick to take advantage and befriends both of them.

3. Winter Lament/Lamento Invernal

La vida en el bosque es dura para Merlin a medida que el invierno llega y se encuentra sin comida ni cobijo. Gracias a su habilidad para comunicarse con los animales, Merlín descubre por primera vez, cómo traspasar las leyes de la naturaleza y hace crecer un arbol de frutas en medio de la nieve invernal.

Life in the forest for Merlin is hard as winter sets and he finds himself without food and shelter. Thanks to his ability to communicate wish animals, Merlin discovers, for the first time, how to overcome the laws of nature and midst the freezing winter mow makes a fruit bearing tree grow.

4. The Musician Arrives/Llega El Músico

Mientras tanto la hermana de Merlín, Ganeida, ha caido ante los encantos del juglar y le ha pedido ayudarle a persuadir a su hermano para regresar a casa donde estará a salvo. El Demonio llega al bosque y encuentra la forma de forzar a Merlin a casa de su hermana. La hoja de un árbol del bosque cae en el cabello de Ganeida y sin saberlo la lleva consigo cuando regresa.

In the meantime Ganeida, Merlin’s sister, has fallen for the charms of the ‘minstrel’ and has asked him to help persuade her brother to return home where he will be safe and warm. The devil arrives in the forest and manages to force Merlin back to his sister’s house. A leaf from a tree in the forest falls into Ganeida’s hair and unknowingly she carries it with her when she returns.

5. Tricked/Must You Leave So Soon? / Engañado/¿Debes Irte Tan Pronto?

Merlin se encuentra en casa de su hermana y su cuñado, Rydderch, quien ha sido hechizado por la magia del Demonio y como resultado expresa su enojo y muestra sus sentimientos. Como una especie de venganza, o quizá para salvar a su hermana de un destino fatal, llama la atención de Rydderch hacia la hoja de árbol en el cabello de Ganeida y revela las circunstancias por las que llegó ahí. Rydderch no sabe con quien enojarse más, si con su esposa por traicionarlo o con su cuñado por hacerle ver públicamente la situación. Finalmente le piden a Merlín irse y éste regresa felizmente al bosque.

Merlin finds himself in the house of his sister and his brother in- law, her husband Rydderch. He has been tricked by the magic of the devil and as a result expresses his anger and dismisses their sentiments. As a sort of revenge, or maybe in the long run to save his sister from a worse fate, he draws Rydderch’s attention to the leaf in Ganeida’s hair and then goes on to reveal the circumstances in which it got there. Rydderch doesn’t know whether to be more angry at his wife for betraying him or at his brother in- law for drawing his attention publicly to the situation. Finally Merlin is asked to leave and he happily returns to the forest.

6. Free For Another / Libre Para Otro

La Esposa de Merlín, sola y abandonada, expresa el amor por su esposo, pero también canta a un nuevo amor. Ha conocido a un hombre quien, a pesar de ser extraño, parece sentir una pasión por ella como Merlín jamás la tuvo. Ella envía a un amigo al bosque para preguntar a Merlín si debe esperarlo o si es libre de desposar a su nuevo amor. Merlín da su consentimiento al nuevo matrimonio, pero esto es antes de que él y Gwendolyn se den cuenta que el hombre en cuestión es el mismo Demonio.

Merlin’s wife, lonely and abandoned, express her love for her husband but also sings of a new love. She has met a man who, although is rather strange, seems to feel a passion for her that Merlin never has done. She sends a friend into the forest to ask Merlin if she should wait for him to maybe one day return or if she is free to marry her new love. Merlin gives his consent to the new marriage, but this is before he, and Gwendolyn, realise that the man in question is the Devil himself.

7. The Wedding March / La Marcha Nupcial

Los demonios preparan a su amo para su próxima boda y su danza se convierte en una verdadera marcha nupcial a medida que la novia, Gwendolyn, aparece. Durante la ceremonia, ella es salvada de su destino por la aparición de Merlín, quien enfrenta al Demonio y lo derrota (aparentemente). Merlín invoca los poderes del bien contra el mal para salvar el reino y se prepara para recibir al elegido Rey Arturo.

The demons prepare their master for his forthcoming wedding and their dance becomes a true wedding march as the bride, Gwendolyn, arrives with her cortege. During the ceremony she is saved from her fate by the appearance of Merlin who challenges and seemingly defeats the Devil. Merlin evokes the powers of good against evil to save the kingdom and prepare to receive the chosen King Arthur.

8. Our Time Is Now / Nuestro Tiempo Es Ahora

Ahora que parece que el Demonio ha desaparecido, el Rey Arturo sabe que es tiempo de renovar su amistad y colaboración con Merlín. El Rey y el Sabio unen fuerzas para enfrentar juntos el futuro.

Now that it seems the Devil has disappeared, King Arthur knows that it is time to renew his friendship and collaboration with Merlin. The King and the wise man join forces to face the future togheter.

ACT TWO/SEGUNDO ACTO (Disco 2)

9. Fairies Dance / La Danza De Las Hadas

Los espíritus del bosque danzan homenajeando a su reina, Vivian.

The spirits of the forest dance to pay hommage to their queen, Vivian.

10. Madman Sings / Canta El Loco

Merlín expresa sus dudas y temores, sin entender su verdadera identidad, su verdadera responsabilidad y su verdadero poder. Llama a Arturo para solicitarle una señal, para que le ayude a entender e invoca a un espíritu mágico, una mujer desconocida para él, una mujer cuyo destino estará inexorablemente unido al suyo.

Merlin expresses his doubts and fears, understanding neither his true identity, his true responsability or his true power. He calls upon Arthur to give him a sign, to help him understand, and he calls upon a magic spirit, a woman as yet unknown to him, a woman whose destiny will be inextricably linked with his.

11. Song For The New Day (Tree Of Life) / Canción El Nuevo Día (El Arbol De La Vida)

De nuevo las hadas y los espíritus del bosque danzan para celebrar el nuevo día. Merlín observa a la distancia y ve a Vivian, la mujer que está destinado a conocer.

Again the fairies and spirits of the forest dance to celebrate the new day. At a distance Merlin observes and in their midst spots Vivian, the woman he is destined to meet.

12. Merlin and Vivian (Including The Storm) / Merlín y Vivian (Incluyendo La Tormenta)

El Destino hace su parte y Vivian le pide a Merlín una señal de que su amor permanecería para siempre. El le entregó un collar mágico, hecha con las hojas de un sauce dorado. Pero ella, ambiciosa por la magia, pidió ver más. Después de crear una tormenta en su honor, Merlín fué empujado a enseñarle los secretos de sus artes para mantener su amor. Vivian es una pupila ávida y comienza a hacerse tan  eficiente como su mentor.

Destiny is fulfilled and Vivian asks Merlin for a sign that his love will remain true forever. He gives her a magic necklace made from the leaves of a golden willow tree, but she, greedy for magic, demands to see more. After creating a storm in her honour, Merlin is compelled to teach her the secrets of his arts in order to keep her love. Vivian is an eager pupil and starts to become as accomplished as her master.

13. Beyond The Nightmares / Más Allá De Las Pesadillas

El sueño de Merlín se perturba cuando las figuras de su pasado continúan atormentándolo. Las pesadillas son interrumpidas por la aparición de una visión del Rey Arturo: los fantasmas se desvanecen en la noche, reconociendo que una presencia mayor se encuentra entre ellos. El Rey solicita a Merlín en su corte para participar en la celebración de su boda, pero solamente la audiencia se percata de un intruso no grato que está a punto de unirse a las festividades.

Merlin’s sleep is disturbed when figures from his past continue to torment him. The nightmares are interrupted however as a vision of King Arthur appears: the phantoms fade into the night, recognising that a greater presence is now among them. The king summons Merlin to his court to participate in his wedding celebrations but only the audience is aware of an unwelcome intruder, about to join the festivities.

14. How To Do The Sleeping Spell / Cómo Elaborar El Hechizo Del Sueño

Al dia siguiente Merlin le dice a Vivian que debe acudir a la corte del Rey Arturo y dejarla sola por un corto tiempo. Sobrecogida por los celos y su deseo por más magia, Vivian accede dejarlo ir con la condición que le enseñe un último hechizo: cómo poner a dormir a un hombre eternamente, salvándolo así de la muerte. También le entrega a Merlín una espada mágica para el Rey.

The next day Merlin tells Vivian that he must set off for the court of King Arthur and therefore leave her for a short period alone. Overcome with jealousy and her desire for even more magic, Vivian agrees to let him go on condition that he teaches her one final spell: how to put a man to sleep forever, thus saving him from death. She also gives him a magic sword as a gift for the king.

15-16. Gloria/Blessed With Peace / Gloria/Bendecido Con La Paz

La ceremonia solemne en la iglesia el dia de navidad se vuelve una celebración gloriosa para el Rey Arturo y su nueva esposa Guinevere.

The solemn ceremony in church on Christmas day changes into a joyous celebration of King Arthur and his new bride Guinevere.

17. How Long Can She Wait? / ¿Cuanto Tiempo Puede Esperar?

Sola en el bosque, esta vez es Vivian quien canta su soledad mientras espera que Merlín regrese a ella.

Alone in the forest, this time it is Vivian who sings of her lonliness as she waits for Merlin to return to her.

18. Uninvited Guest/The Last Battle / El asistente no invitado/La última batalla

La fiesta de la boda es dramáticamente interrumpida cuando los invitados descubren la verdadera identidad de un personaje misterioso: el Demonio. Con ayuda de la espada mágica de Vivian, Arturo se defiende contra el Demonio en una larga y difícil batalla. Finalmente mata a su adversario, pero el Rey también está mortalmente herido. Merlín es la única persona capaz de salvarle pero cuando es invocado para hacerlo, confiesa que ha entregado su magia y que ahora es únicamente Vivian quien puede salvar al Rey.

The wedding feast is dramatically interrupted as the guests discover the true identity of a mysterious character in their midst: the devil. With the help of Vivian’s magic sword, Arthur defends himself against the devil in a long and difficult battle.He finally manages to kill his adversary but the king too remains mortally wounded. Merlin is the only person capable of saving Merlin but when he is summoned to do so confesses that he has given his magic away and that now Vivian alone can save the king.

19. Wait For The Golden Age / Espera Por La Era Dorada

Sabiendo que se necesitan sus poderes, Vivian llega a la corte y usando la magia que Merlín le ha dado, es capaz de salvar de la muerte al Rey. Para hacerlo, sin embargo, debe ponerlo en un sueño eterno. Un sueño que, como las leyendas deben tener, dura hasta que el pueblo de nuevo requiera la ayuda de Arturo. Toda la corte, incluyendo a Merlín se unen para seguir al Rey, suspendidos en un momento que terminará solamente cuando el mundo esté de nuevo listo, cuando la Era Dorada haya regresado.

Knowing that her powers are needed, Vivian comes swiftly to the court and, using the magic that Merlin has given her, is able to save the king from death. In doing so however she must put him into an eternal sleep. A sleep which, as legend would have, lasts until such time as the country again needs Arthur’s help. The entire court, including Merlin are bound to follow the king, suspended in a moment which will end only when the world is again ready, when the Golden Age has returned.
