El primer comentario, antes de pasar a hablar de la música, debe ser de admiración por el amor y dedicación que el músico detrás de Heartflight -el norteamericano Mel Lavamaki– ha puesto en esta obra. Desde mucho tiempo antes de salir el presente disco, se dio a la tarea de mantener informado -de manera personalizada- a su nutrido grupo de seguidores de los avances del proyecto: enviaba e-mails y hasta ocasionalmente postales con el artwork (muy bello por cierto, cortesía de Anne Gordon) de su última obra.

Heartflight es el proyecto solista de Mel, donde produce, compone, ejecuta, arregla, mezcla y masteriza todo lo presetado en Wings Of Change, su segundo disco. La música es un rock sólido, con ligeras incursiones en el progresivo, en el AOR y muchos, muchos jams. Mel es un músico muy versátil y no le da miedo experimentar, como se pude escuchar en Chrome Pony Solo Rider donde canta unas líneas con tintes étnicos de indian chanting y luego rompe con un largo, ácido solo de guitarra; es evidente que con este instrumento se siente más cómodo, ya que lo hace llorar en repetidas ocasiones. Dance Of The Dove es un corte con dos caras: una primera muy bella con guitarra acústica y un fondo dulce de teclados y una segunda donde se añaden unas percusiones latinas muy bien ejecutas; sin duda, mi track favorito del disco. El problema que tengo con el disco es que todo se mantiene en una misma tónica, una misma línea. Quizás el incorporar algunos otros músicos pudiera ayudar a la diversidad de una música que grita y pide ser ejecutada por una banda completa.

En conclusión, una buena colección de canciones de rock, que puede ser disfrutado por una amplia audiencia.

Our first comment should be this: kudos to Mel Lavamaki, the man behind Heartflight, for the love and dedication he puts in his music and all that surrounds it. Long before the disc was released, he was keeping informed his fans about the happenings of the project, either by personalized e-mails or even sending postcards with the beautiful artwork, courtesy of Anne Gordon.

Heartflight is Mel‘s solo project, he produced, wrote, composed, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered all of Wings of Change, his second CD. The music can be described as solid rock, with some incursions into Prog, AOR and lots, lots of jams. Mel is a very versatile musician who is not afraid to experiment with his music, as you can hear on Chrome Pony Solo Rider where he sings some lines with ethnic overtones of indian chanting, only to rip latter on with an excellent, long acid guitar solo; it is obvious that this is the instrument that he is more comfortable with, since it weeps throughout the album. Dance Of The Dove is track with two faces: the first is presented with a very cool acoustic guitar over a warm bed o keys, and the second introduces some very elaborated and well done latin percussion; without a doubt, my favorite track. The only problem I have with this release is that must of the time, the music stays in the same tone. Maybe inviting a few other musicians would improve this, since the music screams to be played by a complete band.

In conclusion, a nice collection of rock songs that will delight a very wide audience.
