Reseña/Review

Con música más elaborada, la misma inteligencia en las letras y dos adiciones a la banda (Kim Finney en teclados y coros y en forma ya oficial, después de una breve aparición en Moonspell, John Tallent en percusiones y coros) Persephone’s Dream lanza su tercer trabajo: Opposition.

En esta ocasión hay más sonidos, más sintetizadores (gracias a Kim) – algunos mejor logrados que otros-, pero el sonido en general se afianza y empieza a ser característico, ayudado aquí por la voz -ahora más madura y experimentada- de Karin Nicely y la sección rítmica (que en mi humilde opinión podría variar más seguido, como lo hace en Hyperspace Minefield o 10th Moon) y la guitarra; esto es: la banda original. Esto nos anima a pensar que los nuevos elementos consolidarán el sonido de la banda en su siguiente trabajo.

Tal parece que Persephone’s Dream está trabajando en la difícil tarea de consolidar su sonido y al mismo tiempo evolucionar, creo que el veredicto final se dará con su siguiente trabajo, que esperamos ansiosos. Quizá hayan faltado los experimentos de Moonspell.

En cuanto al Artwork, aunque sigue siendo espectacular y fuera de serie (otra marca reseñable de este grupo y de su autor: Audre), me quedo con el oscuro trabajo de Jim Titus en Moonspell.

Aunque no considero ningún track inferior a otro (el disco está bien balanceado dentro de los límites que impone el estilo de la banda) sebresalen 10th Moon, la muy electrónica Endymion, Dreamcatcher y sus percusiones y cambios de tiempo, la radiable Kindred Soil y la potente abridora Bevel.

Persephone’s Dream es una banda que vale la pena seguir y ver su evolución.

With more elaborated music, same intelligence in lyrics and two new additions to the band (Kim Finney at keyboards and backing vocals, and officially -after a brief collaboration on Moonspell-, John Tallent on percussion and backing vocals) Persephone’s Dream release their third album: Opposition.

There are more sounds, synths (thanks to Kim) -some better than others- this time. But at the end, the overall sound stays, matures and begin to be recognizable thanks -among other things- to Karen Nicely‘s voice, the rythm section (IMHO could vary more often, like in Hyperspace Minefield or 10th Moon) and also the guitar… the original band at their best. This makes us think that in the next album the new elements and sounds will mature.

It seems like Persephone’s Dream is working hard on becoming a recognizable band, with their own style and sound (difficult these days) while at the same time, trying to evolve. I think we’ll have to wait ‘til their next work to judge. I missed tracks like Moonspell‘s Earth Dreams.

Talking about the artwork, altough still spectacular and marvelous (another trademark of the band and its artist, Audre), I prefer the dark work of Jim Titus on Moonspell.

I don’t think there’s a track superior to another (the CD is balanced within the band’s style limits) I can choose «10th Moon», the electronic Endymion, Dreamcatcher specially the percussion and tempo changes, the radio-friendly Kindred Soil and the powerful Bevel that opens superbly the album.

Perspehone’s Dream is a band worth listening, follow and check their evolution.
