And the one-legged mad flutist came to town…

I’ve just returned from Jethro Tull’s first concert in Monterrey.
It was on the City’s Teathre (Teatro de la Ciudad). Nice place, good sound.

This was a matter of respect and worship for a man, his guitar master companion and the gift of their music…

All of us knew that the higher vocal notes are no longer sang, all of us know about aging (I mean, no more long hair, no longer the physical strenght, a lot of gray hair), all these thing didn’t matter… All we wanted to see was the guy, the strange guy, the mad guy proud of his music. We wanted Martin Barre at the guitar… cool! The last solo album piece was powerful.

I fulfilled one of my musical pending assignments… I’m very close to be sure that I can rest in peace…

Finally, a prog event since the PFM was full (actually, a second concert was opened for tomorrow). Lot of 40 to 60 something at the teathre… people from other cities of the regions. Cool. We made it this time. Some sons, even grandsons waiting.

The lights went off and then the flute began to play… It was awsome! Mr. Anderson with the well know modern black and white oufit… the flute, Martin Barre outstanding with the guitar. The rest of the band, making a remarkable job… but then again… the flute… at its peak, powerful as it is, breathing along with its master and his voice…

Songs from various years and albums (lots from Aqualung, including Aqualung, Hymn 43, Mother Goose (nice version) and the encore Locomotive Breath).

They played blues from Stand Up and This Was, jazz songs from Roland Kirk (wow) and the classical Bouree.

The movements, the showman, the one-legged stuff, everything was there, using mandolins, accordions, flutes, bongoes, the tiny guitar Mr. Anderson uses…

I missed songs like The Whistler, Songs From The Wood, Skating Away…., but mostly Living In The Past and Life’s A Long Song…. Maybe I’ll never hear them live. Anyway, the show was a must for me.

Thanks for your music
Thanks Jethro Tull for coming…
