My playlist this week

Going to Frisco these days (huge computing event, with a lot of doubts on the hotel reservation)

Let me give you my playlist for this next week…. cool music…

  • Devendra Banhart: Cripple Crow’s «Cripple Crow» (I wasn’t a hooked fan of this guy, I liked some songs, but that was all)… in this new release, he augments the whole thing, beggining with the sounds, being helped by lots of additional instruments and stuff… I heard the complete CD last night… gosh! «Cripple Crow» maybe is not the most melodic song, it’s even repetitive… but please pay attention to the lyrics… this song could be another anthem during the Vietnam war… one of the best anti-war songs I’ve ever heard… period.
  • Iron & Wine/Calexico: In The Reins’ «Burn That Broken Bed» This combination sounded awkward when I saw the cover and the announcement. Another fine surprise…Calexico does a fine job to the singer/songwriter compositions and … voilá… a nice CD… Get hooked on this track maybe because of the muted trumpet… although it sounds jazzy, the track doesn’t… cool track….
  • Vaquero: Vaquero’s «Space Is Fake» during the late 90’s and 00’s my favourite local band was Zurdok. They are no longer that somehow experimental rockpop band, but 2 members formed with a third one from other local band Vaquero… Completely in english… frankly aiming the US market… anyway the music is great, good sound, and fine compositions… as Chuy said: We finally have a brit rock band here in Monterrey…
  • Nortec Collective: The Tijuana Sessions vol 3’s «Tengo La Voz»: Cool… A real mixture of Northern Mexico sounds and electronica… These guys rock! An album with a festive mood… Just hear it and feel ok…. Please pay attention to the trumpet sounds, the beat, the accordion subtle included in the background… wow!… don’t care if they missed the volume 2 (it doesn’t exist)…
  • Super Furry Animals: Love Kraft’s «Cabin Fever» I prefer the Phantom Power Album. But SFA can’t dissapoint me… it’s godd music they have on this record… I liked a lot this track for its symphonic trend, a good pop track… (seems like many band members sing -lead vocals I mean- all along the CD)
  • The New Pornographers: Twin Cinema’s «Stack Crooked» A track that combines its slow and tranquil beginning with a crescendo energetic rising. Please, again the trumpets made a lot of difference… The vocal work is well developed… almost punk in its beat, it ends being a good rock track
